PIPE BANDS

The Otago School of Piping & Drumming was built to train pipers and drummers for the City of Dunedin Pipe Band.

The City of Dunedin Pipe Band was formed in 1898, and is the second oldest band in the southern hemisphere drawing
its membership from Balclutha, Roxburgh, and the greater Dunedin area.

The band has achieved a perfect unbeaten record in all major South Island contests and also took the Grade Two title
at the 2003 National Contest. For this achievement the band was granted the freedom of the Dunedin city by the mayor.

In 2007 the band won all the major contests including taking away the Grade 2 National Championship.

The band has a Grade 2 band, a Grade 4 band and a Development band for juvenile players.
